Laura Stieghorst

My name is Laura Stieghorst, I am a recent graduate of the University of Miami with a B.A. in Environmental Science and Policy and a minor is Spanish. As a Miami native and lifelong member of the marine science community here, I have had research experience in invasive species management and coral conservation. It�s South Florida�s unique and delicate ecosystems that constantly motivate me and others in this community to work to protect and preserve them. Most recently, I founded B�SICO, a student-led research team out of UMiami's Rosenstiel School directly funded by the Musk Foundation. Our mission is to research the ecological impacts of enhanced ocean alkalinity as a carbon capture solution and expand the market for CDR solutions in South Florida. Our solution would do three things: increase ocean pH, fight ocean acidification, and promote coral growth. Beyond my research, I have experience in public policy, communications and design, and event organizing.
