Olivia Williamson

Ph.D. Candidate, University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science

Liv is a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate studying marine biology and ecology at the University of Miami. As a member of the Coral Reef Futures Lab, she studies ways to help coral reef ecosystems persist as our oceans and environment change. Broadly, her research tests intervention strategies for enhancing coral resilience to climate change and other stressors. Liv focuses primarily on coral reproduction and early life stages, conducting laboratory and field experiments to improve outcomes for the next generation. Her work informs reef restoration efforts in Florida and beyond. Liv is committed to involving non-scientists and members of the community in STEM and marine conservation through education and public outreach. By leading citizen science expeditions, mentoring students, assistant-teaching courses, and giving presentations and laboratory tours to the public, she aims to share her passion for ocean life with the next generation of scientists, policy-makers, and activists.
